Hi - I have been in RM for maybe a year. When do you start to feel knowledgeable in this role? I’ve been between two groups and feel more of an admin staff than an RM.

I thought my 2nd year was better and I had more insightful decisions /questions. Having been through a full year was helpful with being through the diff parts of the year. What service line do you cover ?

That would make sense. I am in audit and assurance!

The RM role is very different depending on what kind of services your group offers their clients and what the culture of your group/company is. I work in consulting and the hardest part for me was getting a grasp on all the different skills my professionals use and need. But once I felt comfortable in the role in general I was able to quickly build my role into more of a trusted advisor which to me is what makes the role so rewarding. It takes some time.

RM becomes a strategic leader when they master the data.

Report on utilization, employee multipliers, planned v. actual hours, etc.

Use the data to start helpful conversations.

It depends on how mature the RM Office is and how much the business has adopted and accepted RM processes. If you are spending much of your time trying to get the business to comply with processes in order to be effective on a strategic and consultative level, it can be exhausting. You may never feel comfortable until you make progress on the adoption front.

TLDR: Getting over your ex of 2.5 years ghosting you after they said they wanted to reconnect.

I was dating someone for about 2.5 years and then we broke up because of COVID and the long distance was making it too difficult to continue. The break up must’ve been like a 4-5 minute FaceTime because I was very distraught. After we broke up, she started seeing someone else but I was heartbroken and it’s taken me over a year to really get over everything and process those feelings. (Cont.)
