Hi! New member to this bowl. I bought a bike and the safety essentials and want to get tips on how to not make a fool of myself when biking in an urban area. I’ve always been a pedestrian so I mainly need to concern myself with cars and things blocking the bike lanes.

Also, for left turns on one ways, if you’re at a red light in the far right bike lane, is it acceptable to just jump off your bike and cross the street with pedestrians before turning left? Obviously walking your bike with them

Well, welcome.

To answer your question, it’s difficult to know without knowing the situation/intersection. Generally I’d just stay on the bike and try to make the left turn but if you don’t feel safe absolutely walk it.

I hope that was the (non)answer your were looking for.

Here many months later and getting pretty good at those left hand turns on one-ways. Just trickier to switch over 2-3 lanes than if you’re driving. AND of course no one wants to let you into the ‘fast lane’ on the left on a one-way to turn. Tips? Besides confidence and extending that arm out widely!

Also, do drivers actually know what the ‘brake’/‘slow down’ signal means? I’m rather skeptical and while I continue to get in shape I don’t want to make road enemies lol

Even during the day time? So you think having lights on at all times of day is safer? If so, I will invest in some good, rechargable lights

Do companies sometimes offer "gifts of appreciation" if you're not selected for a merit increase? My manager randomly called me to let me know I was chosen for the "gift" this year bc of my "hard work & dedication", except now I'm learning other colleagues are receiving actual merits.
I mean it's possible that I may receive a merit, but I feel like I won't considering my manager never brought it up & the dept update made it sound like those receiving it should know by now.

I have a 20+ year career doing AdTech/BI/Analytics in media agencies. Started as an intern, rose up to director and board member at various agencies.

I switched to tech consulting at SM level early this year for the money but also to see new industries & learn something new. Had to quit the small firm I joined after only 5 months due to chaotic and overbearing leadership. Now I have an offer from Avanade and one from a big media agency on the table.

Should I go back or stay in consulting?
