As someone that has successfully sold a watch off this forum (with a great experience) I think on sale posts we use our actual names for posts as a condition considering most of FB has been validated via LinkedIn, work emails etc. Unlike something like Rolex forums, you screw over a fellow WIS, it has deeper reaching implications as we all see it, and all know where you work. A better chance of a honour system with some boundaries.

Agree
I have another point to add - as there are concerns with flippers using this bowl to profit, we should have a rule that no listing can be above current MSRP. I’ve seen a few Rolex flippers come in here already and that’s honestly the worst of the watch community. Just my personal opinion - go sell your $20k Sub on eBay.
Preach.

Sharing some ideas
- Post with real name

- photos with time stamp

After looking at the sudden influx of flippers this week, I take this back. Don’t want this bowl to turn into watchex 😕

I like this idea a lot. The sales I have seen occur here seem to be done quite amicably and the honor code in here is quite strong.
If I really had to squeeze out another best practice, maybe the seller has to post several good quality photos of the watch from different angles so our community can kinda self-police if something seems off.
Pro
Need to find a way to make sure the seller is real and so is the watch.

Would be totally open to it. I buy/sell/trade a lot on other forums, and a lot of the security comes from having buyer/seller feedback and transaction history that is visible with a user’s profile. Can’t really do that here with the anonymity, and people might not want to reveal their true identities publicly. Think that might be one of the bigger roadblocks.

All excellent suggestions and feedback. Keep it comin’. I’ll draft up a “best practices” and pin it to the top.
And I don’t want to take on the burden of escrow/authentication. I also don’t want to be liable. We’re on the honor system, and I think we do a great job of self policing.
OP, are you willing and able to offer escrow and authentication services?

I can go either way on real identities. I like the idea of listings (one post per watch) as long as you have photos and name a price and location.
Visual Storyteller
Great idea!
Also PayPal G&S for extra protection
Goes both ways though. I’d be comfortable letting a buyer use G&S if he can show prior sales history and transaction feedback. A lot of times this is viewable on platforms like Reddit and WUS. If he can’t then I’d only accept wire or PayPal F&F - too many potential scammers out there
I recently listed a Grand Seiko SBGA407 Skyflake for sale, still available. I would have no issue providing real identity as well as any information that would make a potential buyer at ease. Full transparency is easily the best policy
