This bothered me so much I asked for a volunteer position at my church to help with communications and advertising. It's a vastly overlooked role (if it even exists) and gives me a chance to help with the biggest challenge the church is having right now: perception and messaging. It's a small thing, but it brings me closer to God at my agency while I look for lessons to apply in my Kingdom role, and use my day to day life to build others towards everlasting life.
I do small things. If someone is sick or sad or in a situation, I always text to pray or say “I’ll pray for you”. And when people about my weekend, I always mention church. Eventually it becomes something we talk about. And it sneaks into my work relationships. My client told me she started going to church with her girls bc I kept telling her that’s what I was doing when she emailed me every Sunday. So small things
I posted this elsewhere but thought it might be relevant.
My biggest perspective change came with the realization that as Christians we are ALL called to ministry. I used to subscribe to the idea that that meant becoming a pastor or missionary. However ministry doesn't only happen in church. We are all called to be channels of God's blessing, wherever and whatever we are doing. This means that the agency I work at is my mission field. God placed me there to be a Christian. Serving my coworkers by being the best employee I can be. Treating them with grace and a heart of service and as a reflection of God's glory. If where you are right now is a struggle, and seemingly beyond yourself, then one way to look at it is as a blessing. Things beyond ourselves means that they are God sized tasks. Meaning God has taken interest in your life enough to have you participate in a plan that is God sized. Try to see your work as your place of ministry. Coworkers, bosses, and clients are all in need of Christ as much as we who are believers need him daily. God has entrusted us to be a channel of his blessing to those people. He wants to partner with us to expand His kingdom. Thus when we are stewards of our work, then we serve the people we work with, and that to God is a daily form of worship outside of our weekend time with God. I know this was kind of a ramble but I hope that it brings you hope in God's goodness and love for you and the people you work with.
I’m not. But this is a great reminder!!
Agree with the above. I understand that sometimes it’s not easy to see how we are doing God’s work in the mist of all the chaos/politics and games going on at work. I think what differentiates us from the many, is the faith and trust we have in Him, who has placed us in the position/role we currently hold. My morning prayer every single day before I head out of my apartment, is that He helps me be a good steward of that which He has put me in charge of. So when I walk out the door, i trust that the Holy Spirit will guide me as I glorify God by managing the work He has entrusted me with.
Me neither
Is it the client or is it the actual work?
Curious because Christianity is pretty counter cultural to the world.
Yesterday at church, our pastor talked about the Serenity Prayer and I was reminded of what a powerful prayer it is. Like Manager 1 starts their day with prayer I'm going to try to start my day with this one.
The Serentiy Prayer
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;
taking, as Jesus did,this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it;
trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will;
so that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with You forever in the next.
Amen
