If they can’t handle a heads-up about a vacation, what happens when you need a sick day? I had a similar situation and just asked if I could shift my start date. They appreciated me being upfront and said it wasn’t a big deal.
If you get an offer you can see about changing the start date. But, depending on when your trip is, that might be tricky. Goes without saying that companies expect new employees to be at work, so asking to take a vacation soon after arriving probably won't go over well. I guess all you can do, assuming the offer comes in, is explain the situation and see how you can work it out.
I think it’s totally okay to mention a pre-planned trip once you get the offer. I’d frame it as something booked long before and be clear you’re committed to the role. Most employers understand as long as you’re upfront early on.
I had the same happening with a new job, and they didn't like that I mentioned the vacations, but I just told them about it when I started the job because I had 4 more months.. He didn't like at first, but he understood I already had it pre-planned. When is your trip hapenning? if its too soon, you have to say it already, they will understand.
Yes just try and schedule your start date around it. You don’t need to tell them why you want to start x date. Just tell them that’s what you’d like. Or start early and then very early on all them how you should handle taking your pto effectively
