Advice needed - boyfriend has almost 3.5 years of finance experience at a bank. Interviewed for PwC valuation senior associate and now recruiter says they want to hire him at “experienced associate” because he has no valuation experience. Is this too big of a step backwards in career? Should he push back and see if it gets him anywhere? If he does accept Associate, is it reasonable to ask for written, definitive timeline (1 year?) for promo to Senior upon meeting standards? Help!

External audit < watching paint dry
Internal audit < watching dried paint
So true
Pro
Take the worst part of external audit and make that your whole job.
Worst job I ever had. 0/10 would never go back.
The only people I know that have enjoyed internal audit are arguably some of the dumbest people I have ever met. Anyone who has an elevator that goes all the way up has hated it and quit.
I am not suprised by this sentiment at all. The fact that people hate internal audit work creates opportunity for people who want to make a lucrative career out of it.
I lead an internal audit department. My total comp is $600k in a MCOL and I have a great WLB. My work is rewarding and management and the audit committee see value in my department.
What firm/industry do you work in, if you mind me asking? 600k total comp is amazing. How many years of experience?
Coming from external audit? If you're already thinking of audit as boring, it might not be the right fit for you. External audit experience gives you a foundation, but internal audit's scope is far broader than just the numbers. The real excitement comes from building relationships across ALL levels of the organization, something external auditors often miss out on. You gain exposure to a huge range of business areas and learning opportunities. While it's not saving lives like a doctor or shaping futures like a teacher, internal audit is empowering.
It's all about perspective. If you're not feeling that pull, it's definitely worth exploring other options that align with your interests.
And yes, I think we tend to have more work-balance as internal auditors.
