There aren't many gentleman left, so this post doesn't surprise me. I'm raising my sons to hold doors for everyone, not just women. Kindness and graciousness never goes out of style.
☝️️very good point. I say mix a little logic into it, if she's in the back, just get the hell out and get on your way...BUT if she's it's just a couple people, please follow the protocol of our forefathers (and foremothers): remove your 🎩, put to your chest, bow before her, and bid that fair lady adieu!
It's just old school being a gentlemen. The same as opening doors for a woman and paying for dinner.
As a woman it makes zero sense to me. Just follow the most efficient way to get everyone off the elevator as quickly as possible.
So they can't stab you in the back like most professional women tend to do.
Agreed with Senior 1. Today being a gentleman translates to being sexist which is sad. At the end of the day if you want to let them off first do it if you don't then don't. To be a gentleman or not to be.
Now that shit is sexist af. I'm a guy and I'm offend. Damn man!
It may be old school, and even an inconvenience for you... but it sounds like you're rushed. Slow the reigns! One day you'll grow old to appreciate these moments that tradition has placed as an opportunity to say hello to a pretty young lady. You won't always be a strapping young individual
No intelligent male shuffles around to let the female go first when she's in the corner. They do it when it's natural and not over the top. That's what a true gentleman is. Don't overthink it.
I tend to let them off first so I can get a good look of the front, profile and backside as they pass by and smile at you for being courteous;-)
Honestly, if the shuffle you have to do to let me out first takes longer than if you just exited the elevator (if you're closest to the door), just go. Especially if you made such a big production about letting me go in first in the first place, so I'm all the way in the back. And for the record I think it's nice for people to open the door for other people regardless of gender and I think whoever asks the other person on the date should do the paying.
^Oh gees, that is why I do not like feminists! I love it when men or young boys open doors for me, let me in or out first, let me have the seat on the bus, help me with my luggages. Those are very nice and kind gesture! I would never take offense if someone goes out of their way to be kind to female. It's only rude if you open door for pretty women and then slam the door on the less attractive ones hahaha...
I don't think being a gentleman = letting a women off the elevator first. But, I guess we'll disagree. It's just annoying when women are in the back corner of the elevator and we have to all squirm around so she/they can get out first.
I've almost crashed into men who don't let me off first because I expect it now
Yes. I open doors for elderly looking people as well. Whether they are able to open them themselves or not. It is common courtesy and respect. Shit, I hold a door open for a guy, too. What's wrong with you people.
@Partner1 is a troll
Effective trolling, core professional value right there #partnerTrack
We're having fun here, no?
I'll always try to let the lady out first if it is convenient (just good manners & the way I was brought up). If it is not convenient or just doesn't make sense I'll go out first, move to the side & put my hand over the sliding door to make sure it doesn't shut. Those exiting can pass. Always seems to be appreciated.
I think Partner 1 was just making a joke and everyone is being way to sensitive.
