How closely is the 4 days monitored? I didn’t go in at all for a few weeks when it was really bad, but when it was manageable I did what I could (a day here and there to show my face). I kept my billing up by working when I felt better at home (often at night) and no one seemed to notice.
Also highly recommend taking Unisom and B6 for the nausea. I suffered until around 9 weeks and, while I was still pretty sick well-into the second trimester, it made a huge difference. Pregnancy is awful and attorneys who go through it should get a prize just for surviving.
Totally agree on the unisom and B6, and I know other women who moved up to Zofran.
Stared at a wall eating PB crackers and drinking ginger ale for 4 weeks. You’re in pure survival mode for now and that’s ok
This.
Seconding Unisom and B6, it makes it a little more tolerable. If you’re so sick that you can’t go in you need to tell your supervisor and ask them not to tell anyone except whoever they need to get accommodations approved for you to wfh. Your other option is to just throw up at work like I did before Covid, ideally in the single use bathroom. Not to scare you but I had morning sickness with 3 kids and it usually lasted until at least 14 weeks so you’re going to need an accommodation because it may not clear up for a while.
This is what I did. I disclosed to HR to let them know and get an accommodation to WFH until 2d trimester
I told the main partner I worked with at 7 weeks because I needed some grace w/ workload expectations. I knew it was early but I couldn’t work at my usual capacity and felt like I needed the cover to push internal deadlines/“turn down” assignments. I also would have had so much resentment for the job if I pushed myself to perform like normal and miscarried
Same here.
Lots of crackers and found a bathroom on a different floor that was almost never used instead of the stalls right by the office.
Get help. Anti nausea medication prescription really works!
Seconding this. I told my boss at 7 weeks because I was struggling so badly but I also called my OB in tears and the metacloprimide saved me. Feel better!! It took me until 17 weeks but with meds I was functioning reasonably well.
I just hit 21 weeks and was still throwing up till around 17, but expected to be in every day. It was ROUGH. I managed with saltines on hand, eventually zofran (unfortunately that was the only thing that helped other than keeping food in my stomach as much as I could), closing my door a lot more than usual, and confiding in my legal assistant who I’m close with early on so I had someone who understood and could cover for me. My group is all men so even though I was pretty obvious none of them suspected a thing until I told them at 12 weeks! I got the chance to take my first deposition at 9 weeks which was brutal, but zofran will be your best friend. It’s rough but you can do this!
I didn’t have it bad enough to need medication, but iced chai lattes were my #1 quick fix when I could feel my blood sugar dipping. Desk naps in the afternoon. Hang in there!
