I have had several rounds of interviews for a role at Visa London office. When I reached out to the HR to check on progress/status after what they called the "final round", they said everything is positive and then set up another round with the hiring manager last week. TBH, that round seemed as if they want to make sure I have understood the job well. And there has been radio silence after that. Any idea how to read this? I have another offer and deliberating if i should just accept that.

If you are from a european country it’s easier. Studying in Switzerland can also help but is not a guarantee. I’ve seen impressive PhDs leave because of visa issues.
The problem is that if you are outside Europe your employer needs to justify why they couldn’t find anyone else from Europe which is a tough task usually.
Ok, for reference, I am Danish/German citizen (ie. EU) and got hired 3 years ago from DK.
My employer (Lonza) has huge challenges to hire the right talent, so if you have the right skills we do not care where you are from. That said for temporary positions, we usually hire EU citizens (or Swiss), as the paperwork takes too long.
In 3 years, I have hired 4 people, only 1 Swiss (1/2 British btw). In Visp (out main Production site) we have >25 different nationalities (a lot German, French & Italians, the direct neighbors).
So, I feel the notion that you only get a job if you are Swiss, is at best an exaggeration.
Thanks for this insight! I hope my skills can outweigh the visa paperwork burden when I apply for a job in Switzerland!
Yes, it is not possible unless you are swiss citizen. Don't bother.
I managed to get a job in 2021 from my home country. I guess the best question is are you a EU citizen? Maybe try to target smaller companies with less competition.
Got headhunted in 2019 from the UK to big Pharma in Basel. I suppose you could say I was lucky to move before Brexit created more headaches for employers here although I think you make your own luck when it comes to your career.
Im in the US. So sounds like what I should do is go back in time and be born as a Swiss citizen 😢😩😭
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out. But not sure if salary will be a huge cut from what I make now, and also with the high cost of living there, will be something to consider!
