Moved to Florida a few years ago and I don't miss the snow at all. The trade-off is hurricane days, which are less fun, but still count. Also just... not being cold all the time is nice.
January and February aren’t so bad. It’s April and May that are a struggle
Definitely. May is a struggle.
I used to live and teach in Iowa and I became extremely attached to my snow days. So moving to a city where it never snows was rough.
We are out in mid May. It’s worth it.
I’m about to quit now. My job decided to have the teachers put activities for the kids to do?
Its insane to have expectations that most parents will set kids up on laptops! All parents SHOULD, but realistically that’s not how it goes. Even though each public school student just received FREE NEW laptops! (In NYC) Teachers are faced each day with the impossible task of making sure each student receives what they need without (some) parents cooperating. No wonder most teachers want to just quit!
We get the 2 holiday Mondays off and look forward to spring break. We also do have possibilities for snow days but they are not predictable.
I love and I appreciate living in SoCal. Shouldn’t be “complaining”, but I will: our low is high 40s. 😅 I know, I know, tough life 😛
40-60 degrees is perfect

I was born in Chicago and worked in CPS for 17yrs. I left Chicago and moved to LA 10 years ago, and love it! LAUSD is different, but I don’t feel trapped like I did at CPS. Sunshine, and good weather makes a difference.
Does your state waived your days if you go over? We get 3-5 snow/cold days a year . If we happen to go over, the state waivers those days so we don’t need to make them up.
Kids have to have 180 school days here. We make them up. There have been years when we end up in school until the end of June, which is really hard. The kids start losing focus after April Vacation, and teaching in June is a struggle for sure. I would rather not have snow days. Right now, my students are in prime learning mode. Daily progress is seen from January- beginning of April. I don’t like the days off due to snow at all.
