How do you all stay humble (and frugal) when the industry is designed to make you overspend? The moment I realized my entry-level analyst makes more than my dad did at the peak of his career was a massive reality check. It’s hard to stay grounded when your peers are complaining about a $10k bonus haircut while most people struggle to pay rent. I’m trying to save as much as possible before I lose touch with reality or succumb to the lifestyle creepe.

Realize that money, at the end of the day, is a tool/means to an end, but not the end itself. Almost anyone can save up enough money to buy a rolex or gucci wallet, but the real satisfaction in life comes from achieving things or building REAL relationships with people (aka things money can't buy). This isn't to say that money isn't important or open doors. Just that you need to have hobbies and a personality outside of your job or you'll end up becoming a Patrick Bateman like a lot of bankers do.

I retired at 33 from IB. I worked for top tier banks origination teams. Save as much as possible. The flashy party and socializing is all just show. Just make sure you do your work well and are always professional at workplace. Learn to use the workplace skills into real life investing. I know alot of 60 year olds who retired and never called/remembered before. The world is full of forgotten people. Focus on your journey. Cheers!

Volunteer for an organization that will keep you in touch with the reality that some people live in, overseas is always a possibility, but so is local Boys and Girls club, volunteer for a children’s shelter, etc.

With everyone seeming to be “hiring” I’ve had job interviews with various firms: EY, Plante Moran, Doren Mayhew, Rehmann, to name a few..
Apparently I just suck at interviewing, or the firms in my area are not hiring. 🤦

Been seeing a guy for a few months now and I can’t stop myself from getting in my head. I’ve never been in a solid relationship before like this and I’m afraid I’m going to mess it up. We’re together most nights and some nights I need a night off or some space, but when I don’t hear from him I get paranoid that I did something.
I don’t know how to just let things be and feel we’re as good as I know we are.

Additional Posts in Salaries in Finance

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

User experience mgr salary? I support six product teams and eight reports. 20+ years experience

Does anybody know what the typical salary range is and total comp for someone starting out as an internal or external wholesaler? If you are one of these, can you share about your experience in terms of whether you liked it or not, work life balance, travel, etc?
