I definitely search online, check Glassdoor, and speak to my network and other colleagues. But I don't really talk to my coworkers about it. It feels awkward to talk about salary topics in the workplace. I'll even check our job listings and see what new employees are being paid. It usually gives a decent range.
Same here, I never ask coworkers
I look at Google and Glassdoor. I'm somewhat new to this company (started November '24) and don't feel close enough to my coworkers to start talking salary with them. If they brought it up, I'd have no problem discussing; I'm just not comfortable asking the question myself because I know it's a sensitive subject for some people.
Agree with you
I use a mix of Glassdoor, Google and speaking to family and friends. It's always a touchy subject and never comfortable to talk about salary, but I usually get a benchmark from Glassdoor and Google, then ask people if they are within a certain range.
That’s a good approach
There’s a few people I work with and we’ve shared our salary. It’s not widely talked about though. Even if you did talk to a lot of people at work, still think it’s in the best interest to look outside and see what the standards are. Being top paid at one place may be just the bottom floor at another.
That makes a lot of sense - it’s subjective across companies

Glassdoor and competing job listings often show salary eange
I really like how the listings these days (many of them) have the ranges and even zones too of how it differs. Problem is the ranges are so wide
I usually start with searching online. Reddit threads have a lot of personal insight! Then cross-check on LinkedIn Salary or Glassdoor. Talking to coworkers can be tricky, but I’ve had some honest convos with former colleagues or friends in similar roles, way less tension that way. It's a mix of research and real talk.
That’s a good suggestion on Reddit, are there specific threads you look at or company specific ones?
