Certainly am right now. Or keep an eye out for internal opportunities.

I was already reviewing MSAs and joined high stakes negotiations in my first week
With the business leads, even when I’m doing the bulk of the work. I’d like to move into a more independent role with my manager as an escalation point rather than her constantly looking over my shoulder on everything I do, and keeping full control over discussions with the business. When I’ve discussed with her, she just says she can’t control that the business is used to working with her, and can’t control that they cut me out of things. I was in BL for years before this role, and I feel like I had a lot more independence and ownership in BL.

How many years of biglaw experience do you have? Not being let to independently draft and negotiate the MSA is crazy. Is your manager also from biglaw?
Sounds crazy but some people just can’t help but grind. I’d probably start looking if I were you, it’s going to be hard to right the ship without conflict. That said, if pay is good and you are happy with the work, you could stay, just don’t expect things to change.
It sounds like a challenging situation, and it’s understandable to feel sidelined when you’re eager to take on more substantive work. These dynamics are unfortunately common in small in-house teams, especially when there’s only one manager and one counsel supporting a niche business area.
I’ve been in this exact position and the only solution was to leave. A micromanager cannot be satisfied with any work product, but their own. You need to be slamming the job boards from now until March.
