This is the great resignation, right? Thoughts on jumping for the fourth time in seven years? I’m chasing the pay to get to where I want to be and have an offer but am getting reservations on making a move within a year. Appreciate any similar personal experience.

If you already have an offer, it means your potential employer doesn’t care that you’re moving within a year. I doubt your job record will matter much to future employers as long as you are able to justify each move.

Good point. I guess I’m concerned about this move not working for at least 3 years. It’s an e-commerce company and the recent downturn for tech companies is causing hesitation. I’ve survived restructures before but seeing 10% of the legal team disappear has a lasting impact.

I'm a 7th year and am on my 4th employer. I agree in the in-house market, moving is probably the easiest way to get the seniority, responsibility and comp you deserve. Move if it will be the best for you in terms of your career.

What’s the answer/statement you use when you’re applying for in-house roles and you’ve freelanced for a while? Recruiters seem to be weary of freelancers.

6 months pregnant and just laid off. And 40% of my severance was just taken in taxes .. I just spoke with paid family leave and I no longer qualify even though I had been paying into the program (thanks NY).. I already applied for unemployment but doctors are telling me I’ve got 10-14 weeks left in this pregnancy.. so stressed having twins and being unemployed, no maternity leave, no paychecks coming in, and I’ve been applying but not a single interview.. just ugh. 😭

Oddly specific but can anyone confirm if Snowflake is actually actively hiring corporate counsel? I see them repost the same exact post every week for about a year now, and I’ve applied a few times now (spaced a few months apart) but never hear anything. Wondering if it’s a phantom job post or if they’re actually looking for different/more experience than described?

The mods are thinking of starting a weekly series where we breakdown the compensation / salary of an in-house counsel offer. It will include variables like location, YOE, alma mater tier, company sector, and company size.

Would this be of interest to the community?

Remote Onboarding question: I joined my company a little over two months ago, and I’m in a remote role. This is my first time onboarding remotely as I started at my last company pre-pandemic. Honestly, I’ve found it lonely so far. I’ve been trying to be outgoing and meet with everyone I can, but it so far feels like I have not been included as a full member of the team. Any advice on how to approach relationship-building? Any secrets to unlocking remote onboarding?

This is a kind of funky question but I need as many ears as I can get - are you still doing safeguard forms or symptom check forms in your offices? How is your RTO process evolving from a legal protections standpoint?

I think our HR team wants to get “back to normal” and get rid of most of our guardrails but I’m having trouble ascertaining the evolving risk.

Boss is gaslighting? Just experienced this for the first time - and would love to hear others’ experiences, too. For the past few years, my micromanager boss asked that I send them every draft of every contract to review, no matter how minor. In my performance review, when asked why I wasn’t promoted, they said that a reason was because I need to learn to stop sending them drafts to review! I said that I only did this because they asked for it, and they said they don’t remember saying that!

I have been offered a position in-house at a $500M-$1B company, mid-sized city LCOL, 10 YOE in private practice. They offered me $120k, w opp for undefined discretionary bonus. No paid parental leave or 401(k) match & only 1 week PTO in first year (but claim they have discretion for more). Is there any way to salvage this? Salary guides suggest TC should be around $200-215k. I want to get my foot in the door but this seems crazy low.
