I have been reading a few articles talking about how FAANG isn’t as lavish as it used to be. My first question is if that is true? If it is true, my second question is what companies out there have the pay, benefits, and perks like FAANG? My last question is if it is as difficult to get into those companies? I've been applying nonstop for two months without getting an offer. I'm glad I'm not the only one dealing with this, but jeez, applying to almost 1,000 without getting a job is nuts. I knew the job market was bad, didn't think it was THAT bad though.
Indeed jobs actually reply to me.. please try them instead, ive stopped applying on Glassdoor for this very reason
Same here. I’ve been looking since August. Had a few interviews, one final round, but mostly rejections. It’s insane. I’m an EA. It’s not rocket science. What roles are you applying to?
I was in the same boat as you six months ago. I had applied for about 300 jobs over a year without a single interview, had tweaked my resume several times times, customized it for each posting, had a contact in HR at another company check it for ATS screening, but was getting no response though I was fully qualified for each job I applied for and had exact experience they were looking for. I finally had some luck by reaching out to former (friendly) employees at my old job and, through one of them, got a job at one of their contacts. It might seem awkward to reach out to people you only know peripherally through former jobs, but it was the only way I could get noticed. Everyone else I talked to who was laid off at the same time as me also only found new jobs through referrals from former contacts. Applying to jobs through portals without a contact at the company seems to be a fruitless endeavor these days.
i am wishing you so so much prosperity for your honest response to my post. i was recently venting about how back in the day you’d just go to a company office and hand over your cv, most likely would get interviewed on the spot but nowadays you can’t do that, but your application gets drowned out with their AI filtering despite being an excellent match to their qualification requirements. aaaah! the void! i can ONLY maaaaybe get contract jobs but that looks and feels so bad.
I have been looking for a year. I really need a remote job since we may be moving back home if the housing market gets better. I spend hours tailoring my resume and cover letter for a particular job and only get rejections if I hear at all. I am 62 years old and have a lot of experience working at top corporations but feel I need to be a college graduate with an IT degree to be seen.
I’m 70 with a similar background. After 50 job attempts, replies, interviews but still no job, I decided to reach out to people I knew in the industry and who knew my work ethic - that worked!
Had no luck with remote work, nothing!
Try Robert Half for remote. Download their app and just keep an eye out.
My next step would have been to temp. I felt this might be a way for employers to see my work instead of my grey hair.
Good Luck.
I HEAR YOU LOUD AND CLEAR AND MOST PART THEY DON’T RESPOND BACK. FRUSTRATING. IVE BEEN LOOKING OVER 6 MO s. I HEAR YOUR FRUSTRATION

Are you getting any responses like initial interviews? If not, I'd suggest having someone looking at your resume. If you're getting an initial interview then maybe it's either what you're saying or needing interview coaching.
i’m not even getting interview offers 😭 💔
Wow you have definitely been through the ringer as far as applying for jobs. That is a lot of jobs that you have applied for. I am sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time finding a role. Have you tried posting in the job referral bowl to see if you can get any leads in there? Sometimes a referral can help you get your foot in the door.
Indeed jobs reply better than Glassdoor .. unfortunately I've stopped applying all together on Glassdoor as I've received no replies, indeed 1 in 5 applications will call me back
I have used both, and attempted to put my specific detail for job search matches, but it still sends me ones I either do not qualify for, or I am not interested in.
I totally understand you frustration, and yes it becomes difficult when you are used to an income you have built your life with, and sometimes it seems you have to possibly consider taking less of pay. I hope you find the right job/career company. I have been looking for a few months now, and I was accustomed to my earnings, as I gradually gained through out the eight years, but there was no benefits, other than a one week paid vacation. No retirement, occasional bonus when the boss decided.
Since I was fired, and looking for a good job, I decided to stay within the Administrative realm, but apply to a new field, I figured now is the best time to explore, and possibly expand, yet most position would prefer experience, it would be partially for me, yet not entirely, I do not want to, or like to lie, but I want to see if I am better at something else than what I have been doing for several years. I want to get out of the automotive world, and get into legal, or real estate administration.
The job market is tough. People are relying more on AI and laying off actual workforce. These layoffs will also integrate into the existing system to make the job market tougher than it is.
It's a tough competition out there. I tell people to learn sales skills. See if you can turn your skill into a solution to a problem. Start small, and do that on the side while searching for a job.
Keep your head up guys. All will be well.
I am older and left my last management position for a downsized role. After over 50 job attempts ( got replies and interviews) and still no job, I decided to reach out to people I knew in the industry I left, and who knew my work ethic. It worked, my first contact offered me a job. I think it’s important and of value to everyone to maintain good working relationships and to have personal contact information, even if only an email. You never know when these people can come in handy or visa versa. Good Luck! It can be unfriendly out here at times and easy to get discouraged. This blog reminded me that it was not personal even though I felt ageism. We must keep our chins up😊
