How do you not let negative feedback get under your skin? This feels dumb, but a few years ago when I was an in-house creative lead on a brand team I had a conversation with my marketing VP where she told me that she was outsourcing a creative project because we didnt have the “creative vision” in house to get it done. Fast forward and im at an agency doing the exact kind of work she decided to outsource, day in and day out. But I still hear that voice in my head doubting my ability to do it.

That comment sounds like it was probably more a reflection of the team as whole as opposed to just singling you out. Clearly you’ve done the work over the years to get to that level of execution. So was the negative feedback really that bad if it pushed you to do better?

IMO in house head of marketing would do this because if the campaign doesn’t have a great ROI they don’t get blamed, they can blame the external agency. Believe in yourself. Other people don’t have the slightest clue what your capabilities are unless they’ve given you a fair chance.

“we don’t have the creative vision” was her opinion (or someone senior to her) and not fact, and more of a reflection on her inability to lead/coach to the required level.

Also, next time you hear something like that, ask the person to expand on the statement. You can pose it as “I want to learn how to get stronger” but getting her to articulate what she means could expose a miss understanding of what is actually missing or needed.

Are people still live on here? I was diagnosed last year with ADD and I’ve tried two stimulants so far. I know they aren’t meant to be a magic pill but I’m still struggling with general tasks and feel like I’m doing the bare minimum. The Nurse has suggested I try non stimulants. What are peoples experiences with meds ? Did they work or not?
