How do you respond when a coworker repeatedly asks for favors that go beyond your job responsibilities? I’ve found the phrase “I can’t help with that, but I can find someone who can…” to be very helpful…

That's the perfect way to respond to those questions in my opinion. It's polite while still communicating the most important fact: this request does not fall under your purview. Much better than the "I can't, sorry" I'm tempted to respond with...

I wish I would have been better at using this phrase early on in my career…

I would do it. It got me promoted time and time again. I did the work and looked like the rockstar!

It’s not someone above me, it’s a peer. Does that change anything?

You know I am going to have to try that one because I have several coworkers who try to dump their work off on me regularly and it drives me insane.

That is crazy, can you provide an example? This would annoy me too

It depends if I have the bandwidth to help and it’s somebody who doesn’t normally take advantage of me happy to help however, why do you have two coworkers who will pass off every bit of their work onto anybody willing to take it and I always just tell them no or I tell them I will be happy to provide them with some training to help them do whatever task they need to do and that usually gets them to run away

This is such wild behavior on your coworkers’ parts!! Does management know?

Actually, funny story. This employee didn’t last more than three months at our job, but I was in charge of training her and helping to make sure she was able to function on her own so every time we went over, I would train her how to do it and help our supervise and she would get frustrated and then she go out and tell people that I had a tendency to try to train her instead of just doing the job myself Which I to this day. Find a hilarious story.

How do you deal with a manager / junior partner who is always nitpicking and questioning why you did what you did, or telling you what you did is the wrong way to do things? It’s generally prefaced with them only doing this to help you grow, but has the exact opposite effect on me. And then when you try to explain your POV, you’re tagged as being defensive. Generally ends me with saying I’m sorry. No other partners at the firm have ever raised any concerns on my communications or work product.

Hi there! I interview for a position with a planned Parenthood this week for a role as Special Events Manager to oversee their fundraising department. Because most of my work and experience has been in freelance. I’m having a hard time figuring out what my work experience translates to in a Salary position. Therefore, I wonder what my base pay should be. Does anyone have any experience in the role?
