Quick qstn - I'm receiving HRA of 24075 from my employer but I would like dhow the rent paid as 96k p.a (while filing ITR). Even if I do so, I was only able to get exemption of 24075 from gross. Checking if we can speak to payroll department to increase Actual HRA since I'm actually paying more rent than compared. Will I be able to do so ?Deloitte Newco EY Accenture Genpact KPMG

What is there to be embarrassed about? If someone said “oh hey I heard Christy got an Uber from you the other night” I’d say “yep, that’s true! I’m always hustling man, kids are expensive!”
Why are you embarrassed for wanting to get ahead and create more for yourself? If rumors start that’s more about them than it is about you!
I hope this person acts like an adult and treats you kindly but if not you having a side gig is nothing to be embarrassed about. With this economy 1 source of income isn’t enough anymore so hold your head up high.
Doesn’t matter the industry/“world” p1….I just meant OP should be proud of the fact that they’re doing what they can to get ahead.
Even if I’m a cook and in your eyes that’s not apart of the professional world and because of your job title or industry you’re in yours might be considered professional, it doesn’t help to be concerned with what others think about us.
Also, taunting/embarrassing someone for having a second job even if it’s Uber/lyft doesn’t seem pretty “professional” to me - just my two cents.
Life is short don't let your perspective of yourself in others eyes be negative, trust me no one cares about you as much as you may think, they are more focused on their own issues.
This is the biggest reason I haven’t done side gigs (not driving an Uber, necessarily, but trying to build a side business, especially with any presence trying to build on my real name). Would be disastrous professionally. Generally is a bigger deal the more you have a “career” instead of a job, especially a relatively high-earning one. You being out there trying to do something would be used as evidence that you aren’t dedicated to your career and, in various soft and harder ways (raises, promotions, comp decisions, who gets laid off or protected, etc.) would be detrimental.
Definitely. I wouldn’t choose the opposite situation, and I don’t mean it as some tone-deaf flex. It just is directly relevant to the original post and, while unlikely to elicit much sympathy, does suck for high earners and professional types who want to build something on the side with an eye toward focusing on it when no longer in a position like this. It really is limiting.

I tell most people at work I do Uber after work. I see nothing to be ashamed of. If I was going to change into old torn clothes go downtown and pretend to be homeless and beg for money after work then I would be ashamed, but being ashamed of doing Uber? That's bananas. Plus in my town 5 pm is the best time to deliver from 5-7 I sometime make as much as I made working 8 hours. So honestly it just makes you smart to seize an opportunity. Cheers

I think it can be played off as a good way to get out of the house and make some extra cash. It may actually help perception too, if I knew my supervisor was driving for uber I might feel less inclined to make assumptions about the pay gap between us.
I don’t think you need to feel any embarrassment, times are tough 🤷♀️
