unfortunately not many jobs in this day and age can really be called low stress, if you ask me at least...
just do your best to survive. i know it's hard with social anxiety and ptsd. been there myself! assuming you aren't already pursuing help, once you get in somewhere, you can start to work on managing your conditions and recovery process as well. being able to access care for recovery makes a huge difference in the ability to function in a work environment.
trying to find something that doesn't face the public as much might be a good start for you. that can be tough though if you're like me and only have a retail background with no higher education. you could consider transitioning to something like a part time receptionist or similar administrative position, where you can rely more on scripts in your interactions and half your interaction isn't face to face. even something like government jobs where you are just there to fulfill a short transaction that is very routine (think like DMV or court clerk) and not super personal could be good.
if that doesn't sound like you, though, i encourage you to think about what aspects of your previous jobs you DID enjoy, and try to find something that plays on those strengths. maybe there's a temp place near you that can help you find placements at jobs, too?
you won't be able to avoid all of your triggers, but the trick is finding something that allows you to acclimate on your own terms and overcome the panic. and when you get to somewhere you can survive, then you can focus on trying to gain new skills or certifications or education so you can transition to somewhere you can thrive!
sorry you've been going through it. sending you well-wishes, and hope you can find work somewhere that will allow you the space to grow and heal.
I agree, at least not many available either. Once someone gets one they probably never leave intentionally.
“Survive” is the perfect vocabulary, I did therapy but I found it made me worse… I think I will be teaching myself which there’s nothing wrong with right? I’m gonna teach others along my way, i think it’s a wonderful start.
Not in public might be my best bet. I have a variety of experience but either way like you said sometimes easier said than done.
The couple positions you mentioned were ones I was looking at, however it was more the social anxiety for me in general so even short interactions I hesitate.
I have been doing exactly that, transferable skills resume.
I am beginning to find out that avoiding triggers is almost impossible but eventually hopefully manageable. I like your advice of survival, thank you! I can’t wait to focus on some new stuff, working on a certification in the meantime.
