How is everyone’s firm dealing with the crisis in the Middle East? I’m not looking to spark any political debate. I’m just interested in the facts - has your firm made any formal statements and, if so, how has that been received? Our firm did make a statement right after the Hamas attacks on Israel, which was before Israel had responded. The firm has not made any follow up statement. Lots of criticism, grumblings, and silent protests (like not attending firm events) on every side.

Virtually every major law firm has put out a statement condemning Hamas attack on October 7th. Most offer support through whatever the benefits package provides. Some have raised $$ for Israel at individual partner level, not firm initiatives. No major law firm that I know has been critical of military action in Gaza.

Any tips for moving up in a medium/large-sized legal department, aside from switching companies? I work in a collegial environment with plenty of opportunities to create more value, but the management level is fairly crowded and it seems the clearest path to get one of those roles is to be hired into it. What has been your experience? Thanks!

On a contract negotiation call, opposing counsel kept making sports references, such as “You got four out of six here, take the win and leave this one alone” in regards to reasonable modification...

From a financial standpoint in this market, which would be a better approach in Austin -

1. Buy a ~8-850k house that meets most of our ideal criteria (size, schools, interiors etc) to stay long term

2. Buy a ~5-550k house that’s not ideal with the plan of moving into an ideal home in 4-5 years when kid is ready for school.

How easy is it to get a mortgage for the second home?

Household income - 300k

Happy to add more details as needed

Thanks

A long post: seeking some perspective. My husband of 2 years that I’ve been in a relationship with for more than 8 years just woke up one day and told me that he’s unhappy in our relationship. I’m devastated because he’s never expressed anything like this in the 8 years. He’s been super supportive and loving, even when we were in a long distance relationship. He supported my career and dreams and this just doesn’t make sense. We have gotten a counselor but things aren’t getting better. Comment>
