General rule of thumb is that 20 bridges will be burnt if you don’t return. You preserve 1 bridge for every week you stay beyond that. If you end up staying more than 20 weeks you could very well end up with a surplus of unburnt bridges. If you hit a surplus of 39 unburnt bridges you’re allowed to have another baby. Fortunately, an additional surplus of unburnt bridges isn’t required in the event you have twins, triplets, etc. All of this goes out the window of course if you receive a promotion, in which case your unburnt bridge surplus is erased and will need to be built up again. Unfortunately, there’s no way to increase the growth rate of unburnt bridges faster than 1 per week. This includes but is not limited to staying late, helping out with your teammates’ work, organizing social events/office parties, or even just generally performing well. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither are your unburnt bridges.
TLDR; take the new gig
No, it was legit. I’ve just got a lot of free time due to a high surplus of unburnt bridges.
Honestly they don’t care. If they wanted to get rid of you on your first day back do you think they would pause for thought? You do you
Pro
