Two months feels like a pretty long runway to still be fielding routine questions, especially if you are not at the same company anymore. At what point do you reach out to HR to get paid for a consultant fee? lol
Helping with a quick question here and there is one thing, but at some point the responsibility has to shift to the current manager, team lead, or whoever took over the role. Otherwise, it creates a situation where people never fully transition.
Personally, I'd probably start setting boundaries before blocking anyone. Something like, "I'm no longer with the company, so you'll need to reach out to your current leadership team for guidance." Most people will get the message pretty quickly.
Curious what others think—how long do you continue helping after you've left a role?
Ive left a few companies and did important work but only once has someone reached out after I left [extenuating b/c a coworker tragically passed away and no one knew a minor process outside of me and him].
Im honestly shocked you're getting questions, most people want to take ownership when given the opportunity.
I would say to start being like "yea idk, check the process doc" to put the onus back on them while being cordial. They'll get the point...
Send an invoice. That usually stops the questions
