How many bedtimes do you miss every week? My rule is only 1, but work is a little out of my control lately.

Oh man. This is such a sad question. But in case it helps, my experience was that I missed much more than 1-2 with my first. A bit less with my 2nd (b/c of COVID). They’re 5 and 7 now and I do still miss some bedtimes (2-3 a week maybe?). Also I am EXTREMELY close with both of them, and everything is ok. (I have to say that because I know how scared I was about how my work would impact things.) Literally- so close!

I get a few comments from my older one every once in a while about how much I work, but on the whole, I think they are getting the point about mommy working really hard for our family, but also prioritizing them more than anything.

All that being said - if the boundary setting is what you need for you/your family , I totally applaud that. Glad that’s becoming easier to do.

0 unless I’m traveling, and I’m in big law. I leave the office early when I go in, and am home to cook dinner and enjoy family time before bed time then work more. My oldest is 13, and I was an associate back then and was still able to do that. I dropped her off and picked her up from school every day too once she started kindergarten. I worked from my laptop in the pickup line. Now my husband stays at home. Before I took on a ton of firm management responsibilities I billed 10-14 hours a day. I still work 12 hours a day at least, just not as much billable.

A3 how much are you able to bill on that schedule?

Most weeks I don’t miss any, but some weeks I miss up to 2.

The “planner” feature in intapp does what A1 is describing if you have that version and you use timers. I’ve found it really helpful for the same reason

Boundaries are important. Enforce them.

None, but I work from home and also work after they go to bed pretty consistently.

I always worked long hours and traveled about 3 weeks a month for 1-2 nights each trip. My kids are in their twenties; both had great challenges and are hard workers who always have bosses that adore them. They say they don’t want to work as hard as I have, but they have excellent work ethics. I am still their go-to for most things, even though my husband logged more story times than I did. My mom worked as well, and she and I are still very close. Live with the guilt and keep going!!

Sometimes I go through very periods where I miss multiple in a week, but even when I’m busy I can usually swing it. I block 5-8pm in my calendar - If a client asks for a call during that window then fine, but it’s blocked so that if someone internally looks at my status or is trying to organize a call during that window it shows that I am busy, so generally I can avoid it.

I’m pretty upfront internally with anyone that I’m working with if I’m going to be offline to pick up my kid and will be back online at [x] pm (and then I am). I pretty much always work after my kid goes to sleep. Definitely still billing more than 8 hours a day on a regular basis.

One or two. Don't feel bad.

Who’s the HOP @ Havas Chicago?

Good morning. This is my 20th year as a AA Para. I have missed my students so much! However, I am a little nervous to return. I know I will protect myself, and I already constantly clean, but my k-3 babies will not wear a mask. I usually get a really bad cold at beginning of school year because of new germs. Anyone else a little nervous? Any suggestions?

Going back to in-person learning has been quite a challenge. We have 4 in-person and 8 virtual. The 4 in-person have done as well as to be expected, however their behaviors have been less than desired. One is being considered for going back to virtual due to behaviors. It's next to impossible to expect them to keep masks on and when they do, they're usually nasty or wet. I have PPEs but things do happen in the spur of the moment and it's hard to stop and put on gloves and such.

Can anyone speak to the presence of impact investing across PE versus VC or HF?

For context, I’m going for my MBA next fall (targeting M7) and want to pivot into impact-focused finance but am struggling to understand which option is best. I’m going in with 3 years of tech consulting experience (data & analytics) in the financial services industry.
