How many hours of work is reasonable for work life balance while also showing dedication to your job? I worked from 7am to 6pm on Friday, and I’m starting to feel like that’s not it.

These 11 hour days every week are draining me. I know you can show dedication without being the first in and last out. I’ve seen people set boundaries and still get promoted. At this point, I realize it should be about impact, not hours, and I need something better.

That’s a good point. But if I start setting boundaries after historically not having them, I worry that it’d be viewed as if I’m done trying

I show dedication in my work, not the hours I put in. I noticed I was dragging out my deliverables just to seem like I'm working harder than I need to be. At the end of the day, nobody really cares or appreciates that. They appreciate somebody who produces good results, whether it takes 30 hours or 50.

There is no such think as work life balance in finance

To me that is too many hours, My company is purely results based so it is dependant on the work we do rather than the hours it takes. So usually I work 10-4 or so, but will always be here if I am needed

Yeah, 7 to 6 definitely sounds like too much, especially on a Friday. I think consistency and boundaries matter more than clocking long hours.

Good evening all,
With my partner we are considering making a move to the countryside of Switzerland, with a gorgeous RE project offering incredible views on immaculate mountains and lake. However, it is far away, and will require 1h+ train/car commute vs. 10 min biking right now. We are scared it will bite us back at some point, although COVID helped w/ remote working being a new norm. The project will be done 2024, so I hope to have a more relax job by then. Any similar experience to share?
