I would encourage you to do a lot of research before jumping into a technology career. I personally know many people who have either been laid off, are afraid of being laid off, or are struggling to find a job right now. It's definitely not the industry it used to be.
I've never done this but I've thought about it many times. I think from everything I've heard, this job market is awful for career pivots, so I wouldn't try to do something new right now. I'd wait until things look a little bit better.
I have changed careers halfway, and I am so happy I did. I got into project management from Data science. The market is never saturated with good, want to learn and thrive, people in IT. Use your background and combine it with IT to get leverage on positions that need a good mix, like an IT project coordinator in logistics tech firms, where you would immediately add value.
Rough time to switch into “Tech” - make sure to do your research!
I just switched out of a “tech-adjacent” career and am going back to school to work in the medical field. Check back with me in 2-5 years and I’ll let you know how it went 😉
I haven’t yet. However, I feel like the writing is on the wall with AI. I do need to be making a career pivot now. I have no idea where to begin with that but it’s something I know that needs to be done.
I was a designer for 18 years in the Oil and Gas industry and made a switch to Cost Estimator it’s been 17 years now.
