Some day soon all you will have is me time. Enjoy the chaos while it lasts. Nothing is forever.
Fully agree
When my kids were that age my “me time” was during my commute. Or after they went to bed and everything else was done. Now that kids are older, (teens) I play tennis a few times a week as my me time.
Does "me time" mean what I think it does?
How much "me time" does your wife get? You should share access to "me time" equitably.
Same boat… Love my kids, my GF and everyone in my life. Me time is important. I try to make a little time every day (20-30min) and get out alone to do man stuff like every other week.
It has not always been received well. But mostly my circle understands I need that or I’ll crash and end up being of no use to anyone. (ADHD paralysis)
When my kids were younger, my ME time was on my commute to work or working out in the gym. I also made time for myself when they went to bed. I had them in bed by 7pm.
5:30-7/7:30 is when I workout and that is my only daily me time. Basically in bed when my toddler is around 9. Then I play basketball once a week… weekend morning. That’s my carve out that is actually away from the family.
With two little ones, me time is a figment of imagination. :) Can get away with catch up time early mornings before 7am depending on when littles wake up
4 kids here. If I want me time, I have to wake up before everyone else. That’s when I’ll work out or play pickleball. Any other me time comes in the form of running errands. And my wife and I tend to split those up so we can both get a little quiet.
Ya well kids do suck up time. I also have a ton of guilt having to travel during the week for work, so I spend extra time with them on weekends.
Same here.
Me time Is eventually after the kids are asleep, or when travelling for business. I hope/assume it will get better when the kids get older and have their own plans.
Me time was extremely limited when kids were younger. It’s much better now that they are older and have their own stuff to do. Unfortunately my wife’s concept of “me time” = “us time”. ☹️ Thankfully our circadian rhythms don’t match so I read or watch my shows late on weekends and sleep in a bit while she gets up early on weekends and can do her stuff.
When my kids were little my “me time” was spending as much time with them as I could. Now they’re grown and I miss that time we spent together. I’ve never thought “gee, I wish I spent more time in the gym or playing pickleball”. SMDH
Listen carefully to Cat’s in the Cradle by Harry Chaplin.
I can’t wait for grandkids.
Not everyone is the same. Judgey much? SMDH.
Now a lot. I am separated with kids who are 18 and 16
If any of your kids are under about 6 then suck it up and dig in. The only way you get me time is by buying it with your partner's time. I recently started 6 months at home while my wife works, and holy F. There is SO much to do and I'm constantly overstimulated and overwhelmed. And I keep finding jobs that I should be doing because old me expected it of her or didn't see her efforts in doing it while she was at home or it was invisible to me when she'd gone back to work. Little kids are hectic and a household has so so many jobs.
Years ago when I was complaining about the same while my wife was at home, she suggested I stop halfway home from the office and have a coffee for 10-15 mins by myself, so that when she got me home I was present and available. Maybe that could work for you. She currently stops in the driveway and does a mini meditation before she comes in to switch gears and get ready to deal with it. She also gets overstimulated v easily.
