Hi fishers! I have offer and signed contract with Deloitte UK and my start day is in the beginning of April. I need skilled worker visa, and we haven’t applied yet for that. Screening and onboarding is in progress. Immigration team doesn’t reply since reached me out 1st time. How much time does it usually needed to go through the whole process? How many days take for visa to be approved since application?Deloitte

I def lose money by not having per diem
Wow, that’s huge M3, I’m sorry to hear that
Close to $4,000/year in gas and 390 hours or so per year of commuting
I’ve lost money from not traveling every week. Used to have close to zero expenses M-Th
We got rid of our second car ($350/month), plus gas, plus not buying new work clothes/dry cleaning, and all the stupid little expenses like a coffee, afternoon snack, etc. it’s quite a bit of savings!
We’re in an area with non-existent public transport, too! And we’ve never used an Uber! Honestly it’s not hard for us to plan scheduled accordingly and share. Took some getting used to, but it’s rarely been an issue. And if it was, you can always rent a car for a day or Uber or borrow from a friend, etc for those random one offs.

I was traveling for work, so I’ve “lost” money by being WFH.
But given that I’m eating healthier, have more free time, lost 20 pounds, have hobbies, am present with my family, etc….. I don’t regret those lost Marriott points at all.

It's not about the money. It's about getting 60+ hours of my life back every month.

~$2000 in commuting expenses and ~500-600 hours a year in commuting and efficiency time savings
Rising Star
Yeah exactly, I value the 600 hours more than the $2000. The thing is, not everybody has the same 168 hours a week if you’re a non-executive/partner and do your own grocery shopping and errands, take your own car in for repairs, raise your own children, and otherwise exist like normal people do
Was local so no meal expense…so probably similar to d2, maybe a bit higher on the $$ saved. I think in 2020 I was looking at ~5500 saved for about 3/4 of a year.
Rising Star
It depends... Mine was :
Commute (30 miles each way x $0.55/mi) = $33
Lunch = $10
Clothes = estimate $7/day (new clothes, dry cleaning, etc...)
So about $50/day x 20 workdays a month = $1000/mo
Rising Star
Agree, a lot of this isn't directly back to my bank. E.g. The $0.55/mile is the IRS estimate for all in car use (gas, maintenance, depreciation) , not just gas.
Also my numbers for clothes are only counting workdays (20 per month) - so it works out to $1700 per year for new clothes and dry cleaning
I’ve been internal- WFH for 10 years. I was looking to switch to industry/ in office and figured out I’d need to make $1000 more a month to cover train/ parking and extra day care. Not to mention clothes, food, and sanity.

Switched to 100% WFH about 6-7 hrs ago. Saved quite a bit and quality of life improved. Moved rural, have a bigger home, more land, downsized to a single family car. Stress levels are way lower. Road rage is a thing of the past. Quality of work also increased, I have better WLB and don’t mind putting in extra time where needed. I fly to customer locations when necessary.
