How much time are you all spending in meetings these days? I checked my calendar and in just over three days, I’m already at 12 hours of meetings… and then there’s still the actual work to get done. It kind of makes you wonder when the “real” work is supposed to happen. I guess this is one of those “be glad you’re employed” moments, but still… it feels a bit wild. How is everyone else dealing with this?

My time in meetings seems to have gone down this year, now that I think of it. Even then, I'd say two thirds of the meetings I attend are not really necessary. Too many people consider the meetings to be the actual work, which is very seldom an accurate view of things.

Can’t agree more. It really does feel like meetings get treated as the work when a lot of the time they’re not. Sometimes I’ll respectfully suggest taking time to think things through and regroup later.

Depends on what part of the month. 2nd half is pretty light. 1st half it’s hard to find time outside of meetings to get stuff done.

Probably 4 hours a day

Too much. Anywhere between 3-6 hours a day.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

I'm in finance/tech FPA, looking to go back to the defense industry for a 25% increase in TC. But wanted to see if I should leverage the new salary with current company to see if they'll match.

Background: got a promotion at current company that didn't come with sufficient increase . After stating my case I was told it would be evaluated next October, which is what prompted the initial job search.

Hey all! I have an interview with
Deloitte in Regulatory Risk and more precisely in their Investment Management Services team. I would like to know if anyone
knows what the job entails exactly. I keep hearing about people "fooled" into taking a job in risk advisory thinking it'll really be advisory while they only end up doing IT and Audit support (which I do not want to do).
Is it the case here?
Thanks!
