How often do your team have after work events like happy hours, dinners, or other “team building” activities? Is it me or have these been cut back a ton?

We barely have any these days, which I honestly don’t mind. I’m not the biggest fan of work events spilling into personal time anyway.

I wouldn't say no for a nice steak dinner for sure lol.

They have office events periodically at my work, but most of the finance and accounting teams are too buried in work to participate. It ends up just annoying us hearing the marketing and HR people have fun (very loud) while we work to make the deadline. No expensive outings though.

If a place doesn’t have these things. That’s where you want to be. No one should be pressured or feel like their flawless consistency to perform is at stake because they didn’t go carpet watching with Susan, Rob, Bob, and Patty.

Run, don’t walk, out of there. You are a senior and the director/VP isn’t giving the team outing money for team building?????

My company has cut back a decent amount. We have onsite events 2x/year and happy hours/team building events have been condensed to maybe quarterly for those in the office.

What is the most controversial strategy you've heard or think to end the Ukraine/Russia war?

I'll go first: Stop helping Ukraine, let Russia go bankrupt trying to prop up a phony government while US makes big gains in NATO spending more on weapons. Divert the money going to Ukraine to instead go to R&D make US more cutting edge.

US should not distract away from Asia Pacific. The pieces are in place in EU for the US to benefit already no matter what. And no, no nukes will happen guys...

Ok, I’m gonna say this. Schools should open. Now hear me out. My wife is a family doctor, she is working insane hours, she is treating covid patients, and there is a lot of days when she has to stay at the hospital without coming home. My neighbour works in a local grocery store, so he has been at work since the Day 1 of lockdown. So if you need medical help, or want to eat, it’s ok for those people to be at work, but their kids have to stay home? Cont’d >>
