Kind of a messed up way to think about it. Make sure you hit your numbers, have people backing you for YE, and do your firm contributions and you should be good. If others do the same, it shouldn’t affect you negatively.

Consulting is collaborative. This is why generally pay for the same level role is leveled. If you want hyper competitive, go to Ibanking or Bain

D2 - it’s not always about hitting numbers and doing all the write things. Some amount of healthy competition also leads to collective increase in team performance. Note hard work will only take you to a certain level.. what does one do after that?

Work for a firm that evaluates employees against objective performance standards, where employees help each other against those standards.

It’s not very collaborative at the upper levels. It’s more of a “what’s in it for me?” environment, and many times it gets crowded at the top.
Are we assuming that competition within the same firm.. it can be amidst different firms or industries.
