I am divorced, in my late 40s, and have teenage kids. I don’t expect my ex to contribute much to pay for my kids’ college. I work in-house, but my WLB is horrendous. Would you switch to a lower paying job that hopefully offers more WLB or would you stick it out at the current job because kids’ college is around the corner, and expenses will only increase? Thank you for your thoughts.

WLB option if the better WLB seems certain. I think enjoying the last years with kids at home is more important that trying to pay full freight for kids college

Need more info to really say. Do you have some saved for college already? How big is the pay cut? Etc. Life is short, but kids’ needs are a reality too.

If you lower your income your kids could qualify for more financial aid and I’m sure they’d enjoy to spend more time with you. Life is short. Don’t spent your life working. That said, I’m sure you could find a better balance with comparable pay.

Agree with this too, sometimes who you work far is a big part of what is making you miserable

Depends - my kids are also teens and for the most part they are hanging out with friends so WLB is more of an issue for my emotional state. Less money could also have an impact on your day to day life. I am currently pushing in the higher paying job with the plan to quit when they are out of high school, as their quality of life matters a lot to me and would be hit hard if I made significantly less.

What if you asked them for their thoughts? My mom (a single mom with a great career) made the assumption for me that I wanted more money and things instead of time and it took well into my adulthood for me to understand and forgive her. If they’re at that age they’re old enough to be asked.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 12. My family did not opt to put me on medication. I illegally discovered Adderall in college. Worked incredible. Got diagnosed after college & after having been fired from my first job. Passed the CPA exams on Adderall. Went off of it again. I do everything well at my job except for attention to detail within my excel files & emails. Will taking ADHD medication really fix this? Does anyone else have this issue and was it resolved by taking medication?
