I’m burning out too. I know I need to care less, but not sure how. I put in for retirement earlier than I anticipated. I guess I don’t know how either!
I put in for early retirement as well. You just know when it’s time!
Time off is the only thing that had ever helped me.

Weirdly enough the less I look at my phone the less burnout I tend to feel. If you feel like you're cramming social media into every spare minute, I'd recommend cutting that out.
I realized I can’t fix our extremely broken system (understatement), but I CAN try to fix my little corner of the educational world. That’s my goal for the next year - to fix it for a handful of my students with a pilot program for my school. Start small. Focus on the individual needs, not the overall brokenness.
💯 Social media is toxic for minds of all ages. It’s a mindset change for sure! I am on year 21 in elementary and my focus has shifted tremendously. Student growth and progress.
#1 Do things directly related to your students’ success. Pep rallies and fundraisers don’t have anything to do with student success, so no I will not be making signs and pumping up the kids. Literacy Night…yes, it builds community but takes me away from MY family, nope, not directly related to my students’ success, so I cannot attend. Let’s face it, they’re asking us to do too much!!
#2 Avoid distractions - including emails on your phone! Somehow teaching has become a 24/7 thing! Team texts coming at all hours. Emails coming through all day. Delete your work email on your phone and at times, hide your phone! There is no urgency unless it’s a true emergency and they wouldn’t come after school hours…it can wait.
#3 Teachers CANNOT work miracles! We cannot work harder than the parents or students themselves! Nope, not doing it. They want us to work too hard for their own child. Our job is to give educational opportunities. Period. Delegate and reach out for help. Parent has an issue with bullying, include counselor and admin. too to assist.
#4 The one I am working on, guide don’t give, because some people become too dependent on you for help and just keeping knocking on your door! This creates dependency and burnout too.
