I am in industry, in a fairly predictable role. On the side I do consulting work for startups and funds. One MM PE fund I've done an engagement with has brought me on for a second. I believe they could use me beyond this, but would like to come with a clear proposal for an operating partner or advisor (with retainer) type agreement. Does anyone have any experience doing this or suggestions?

1: EY - FDD, home city, very good $$ for FDD

2: PwC - post-merger integration, DDV team (essentially M&A Consulting) - bigger city, always been keen to move

Coming as a Senior in Audit, with recent FDD exposure (2 deals, obviously not much). I was looking for something more than just number crunching, wanting a mix of quant / quali / strategic work. M&A Advisory or a Corp Strategy role is where I'm looking to end up long term.

How long does it takes for you to feel confident on what you are doing at FDD? Essentially I am not trying to stay at FDD forever but want to make sure that I learn all the necessary skills before I go.
