Considering a move from a B4 to the West Monroe deals practice. Any insights from people working there or who worked there?

I left B4 for West Monroe. Then I left West Monroe and now I'm a West Monroe client

Take the most average B4 person and WMP person and they'll be about the same in caliber. But WM is devoid of that top 10-15% talent that you'll find in B4 who can find an exit opp in any other consulting shop they want but still chooses to stay. Some reasons WM can't retain the best might be no H1B sponsorship, no big financial levers to retain top people especially when they no longer have the same ESOP carrot to dangle, and supposedly a much fuzzier path to Partnership unlike B4 pathway programs like NextGen or PCLDE.

WLB is definitely better at WM. Culture is cultish, maybe 25th percentile on diversity metrics, fratty, but there's some random pockets of good people

Mostly MM clients in WM vs both MM and megadeals in B4

Post 2021 ESOP payout WM's TC is currently 20-40% lower than D/EYP for M&A depending on level. The TC gap widens even more when you benchmark against A&M PEPI which is one of the biggest exit destinations for WM's M&A practice

As a client it's a good bang for your buck shop for IT M&A and post close PMO, their hourly blended rate is way cheaper than B4. Don't engage them for product tech DDs though, the output is so so so bad compared to other shops

When I led DD and WMP, quality of product DD was very person dependent. Not enough talent to provide consistent quality for all clients.

WM no good

Worked at WM then went to Big 4. I like Big 4 better. Also they did layoffs today so thread carefully….

Agree mostly with M1. I went Deloitte, the WM now at EYP. Jr talent was great at WMP, often better than those I manage at EYP. But comp was so much lower I couldn’t justify staying, and only get worse at even higher levels.

Happy to answer any questions you have.

WM1: Does WM have any MBA hire?

No worries.
