The culture of public schools has definitely changed. I’m in middle age 8 years from retirement….and there’s a lot of new young teachers who seem to think that they’re doing a great job, and aren’t very respectful to older veteran teachers. They avoid us. When I started out teaching the veteran teachers were respected and we the new young ones were put in our place if we had know it all attitudes or wanted to be the cool liked by kids teacher we were set straight on the fine line between being cool and being a leader and example. Now the cool young favored teachers who text at their desk while allowing kids on social media cause they don’t want to have to fight with the kids and admin are deemed wonderful. Admin seems to favor the younger teachers who don’t have the same standards for student conduct as we do or who are probably afraid to discipline too much since that’s frowned upon. Admin doesn’t want to have to do any work so they hate veteran teacher write ups 😂. I know they have paperwork etc everyone on here likes to defend admin as being overwhelmed too yet I see many days or hours of admin chatting it up laughing with the teachers they like (the ones who never do write ups usually) and it’s us veterans they can’t be bothered with. Unless of course it’s a veteran teacher of color like admin is, they can be as stern as they want and get total respect and consequences by admin are followed through. Yes I said it-as a white teacher with admin of color I do get treated differently. I’m old and white I must not understand this new generation of students of color. What’s sad is I do understand. And the students families who want good education and their kids prepared for real life job expectations value me. They value that I call home. So I get more support that way then from admin and young new teachers.
You’re not a Karen, btw, for acknowledging your feelings & experiences. Many of the younger teachers I have worked with are unprofessional, entitled, and have unwarranted high self-esteem & we don’t have a “name” for them. Oh, and you can call me a Karen too, as I couldn’t care less.
So MS biz teach- HERES MY INSPIRATION FOR YOU: hold your head high, you are a veteran teacher of honor and dignity. You’ve come through this life and stuck it out. God is with you and yes you have PURPOSE!!!! Don’t let the haters drag you. Do you and do your job and go home when the bell rings and tend to your life and your hobbies!!! Self care is so important!!!! We can do this!!!!

I feel the same way but I keep telling myself just make it till Friday and then we will be on winter break! Be encouraged! You are tougher and stronger than you think you are!

Hey, adjust your attitude! You care too much about what others think! This is how I make it work! I say to myself “they know not what they do!” Then I inhale then I exhale! I use all my energy on me and think about other exciting things I’ll do on the weekend e.g. Broadway Show, “A Christmas Carol,” “Annie,” or the “Nutcracker!”

You will survive!!! Take care of yourself!!! Work with your colleagues, do lesson plans together ❤️, take 1 day at a time, seek support from a therapist, if needed.
Not everyone wants to kiss up to their colleagues and do lesson plans together. Some of us would simply like to be treated with respect. I’m not a people pleaser and codependent, I like being independent as a teacher. The poster was talking about the disrespect from colleagues so why would you tell her she needs to plan with them? Enjoy your colleagues and telling yourself you’re wonderful cause they tell you so, I will clock out and enjoy my life and hobbies! God bless!
