Document, document, document. Not only what she has done, but what you have done, and especially what admin is doing now. All responses, etc., every day and every time there’s anything new.
And as CO Middle said, mark her absent if she’s not in class. If she’s marked as in the office, document it even if it’s in the attendance records—which can be changed.
And as CA Middle said, check in with her, but don’t make it a big deal. Then always with the “thank you.” And document that class and how it went. For a while, CYA will be your new reality.
Document documents for administration documentation for 190 students to CYA when the admin should actually have your back. 😔
It sounds like you got sucked into a power battle with her. This happens to almost every one at one point. When she returns smile at her let her know the day is a new day and clean slate. If she is defiant take a deep breath, calmly ask her what should she be doing right now. Wait a beat for a response. Thank you walk away. If she acts up again calmly without showing anger tell her because you chose to not do your work I will contact your parents. Then walk away . Ignore her then at recess time get her parent on the phone tell them what happened then have the girl explain why she chose to behave this way. Put it on speaker phone. Have a teacher friend in the room with you or a couple of trustworthy kids that can "help" in the class so you have a witness.
Use an adult.
Just mark her absent if she is gone

I would have a simple talk with the staff member. Is that staff member going to house this student every morning? What is the plan exactly, and why weren't you involved in developing it or agreeing with it?
No matter what anyone says, that particular admin is never wrong. She has specifically stated "Ain't nobody gonna tell me no!". She basically does whatever she wants to do.
Then she told the student to write it up, too. Apparently, when she met with our BI, the student had an attitude and was in AEP for 1 day. Now, however, when I do attendance the other students tell me that she is with the "staff member". Today she was marked "In Attendance". I am in a quandary because that staff member is a favored staff member and no one crosses her. I have not received an email or message about the student and what is going on with her. Grrr!
MSET1…You have just read my thoughts exactly!!
I would be upset too if my student was getting special treatment from an admin member. I do have kids who get special treatment and it drives me bananas!
You have a right to ask why your student is not in class, but marked Present. You have legitimate concerns about her missing valuable instruction time. I don't know what grade you teach, but at the high school, students are pulled out of alternating periods so that one class is not unfairly affected (if this is a regularly scheduled event). It's not insubordinate to respectfully ask questions, but as others have said, be sure to document everything! In the end, humans are fallible and I have seen firsthand how favoritism can turn rational heads. Just do what YOU can do and try to let the rest go if it's a battle you're not wanting to fight. I'm pretty stubborn and outspoken, so I might poke and prod more than others, but I also respect there are different thresholds.
I believe you can suspend a student from your room for the day (regardless of whether your principal likes it or not). Once the child is gone, you can get back to teaching. Once I sent my student out, I promise you that I didn’t care what they did with him! Wasn’t my problem any more!!🎈

This is what is really weird, u mark her absent and then a few minutes later, it changes over to "In Attendance". I guess my documentation on paper attendance chart will prove that she wasn't in my room.
