Several years ago we had an infestation of bats at our school. We always knew we had them, but during the summer they had multiplied. After a very rambunctious back to school rally, the bats were literally swarming and flying down the hallways. They decided they would need to purge the building. All 450 Students, teachers, and staff were sent to a rural elementary school that was way below their enrollment. Our Core classes were put into actual classroom and the library, and all Related Arts Classes had to share the Gymnasium and theater stage. You should have seen us trying to teach band, choir, Business, FACS, Art, and Gym in the same area. I promise you it wasn't quiet. We had this experience for around 5 weeks before we were allowed to return to our building. We still refer to it as "the year of the bats".

However tough it was, our team still looks back on it as a wonderful team-bonding experience.
I had to take chemo for breast cancer every Friday from July thru Nov., then every third Friday thru Jan. I had my laptop with me doing lesson plans while in the chemo chair. I have also written lesson plans from my vehicle while doing laundry at the laundromat. 😂

I cannot imagine how exhausting that would have to be. With the treatments and the side effects and still teaching. That surely shows your commitment as a teacher.
I’ve taught in some pretty unconventional places myself, once held a lesson from a hotel room while traveling for a conference, and another time, I had to do a Zoom class in a noisy airport lounge. Teachers get creative when they have to! Flexibility is key. How about you, any other fun stories?

How about this-tutoring a student who lived in China. The days goes prancing behind his son, and he was in his underclothes. He was getting ready for work and forgot his son was in a tutoring session.
Teaching AP French via Zoom in Honda’s service department because my car battery died one cold morning was très amusant! 💻🇫🇷

That would definitely be interesting. How did your students react?
Probably the covid year(s) was my most unconventional. Trying to get packets and one on ones with anybody who needed it at the end of the school year. Then next school year being in and out of school, my home office was my couch until I could get a better set up!

Oh absolutely the truth. The Covid nightmare was definitely a challenging time for educators.
