I did insurance defense for 8 years. Commercial litigation for the last 3. I’ve taken hundreds of depos and handled hundreds of hearings and probably 30-40 mediations. 2nd chaired about 4 trials. I run cases on my own otherwise. I’ve done very well in commercial lit. I’m being told by a recruiter that my long time doing ID is basically still haunting me and even though I’m 11 years out, if I want to make a move I’d take a huge class cut and be bumped down to like $160k. What’s my move here

At 11yoe you should be aiming to make partner somewhere, not be an associate. I think your seniority without a book is a bigger issue than your ID background.

Biglaw represents a minority of firms, none of which would hire OP to your point. OP should be targeting midlaw and regional firms as a Counsel.

You can make more than that going to a big 4 employment firm probably even in a small market (coming in like at year 4-6). With that practical experience one of them will hire you.

I have no experience in that field, I’m not sure it’s what I want to do. I enjoy commercial litigation but it feels like my career trajectory is not going anywhere

I’m barred in a few other states and I’m thinking about moving to a different market because the prospects don’t seem particularly good here

You can make more being a solo. Da fuk

I have a direct report who is smart, passionate about her job and can be really innovative. However she carries this enormous weight of responsibility, for needing to do everything, do it right, make sure it's perfect, not trusting colleagues to help. It creates dread and panic and overwhelming workload and a terrible attitude for her and I am speaking with her this week to start to shift her mindset. Any tips in navigating how to let go of this heavy idea of "responsibility"?

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
