If you don't know the answer to these questions, refrain from putting it in an ad, because it will blow up in your face
Like BAAAAANNGGGG!!!! ?
What is there not to get?
A heavy yes. The clue is it’s similarity to the word “yes”, the all caps, and the exclamation points. Quite easy to break down.
Ogilvy smarts ^
Can it be used alone or must always be coupled with something like GIRRRLLL! ?
No, it’s YASSSS beyotchhhh
Well, the phrase went mainstream about 8-10 years ago when this video of a Lady Gaga fan was heard screaming “yaaaas Gaga” in the background of this video: https://youtu.be/mTJoH-xBCxQ
However it’s been around since I wanna say the 80s? But it was mainly used in predominantly Black/Latino queer spaces, notably the NYC ballroom scene of the 70s-80s. Paris is Burning is a really great film that captures the spirit of that era. Definitely worth a watch!
Please don’t use it in ads. Please, please don’t use it attached the word “girl”. That’s cringey as fuck dude.
What does it mean?
Yaaaaasss I can explain
I am sure there are other sources for this, but I’ve always associated YAAASSS and YASSS QUEEN with Broad City. But YASSS on its own is basically a very stoked yes!
YAAAAAASSSS!!!! See the above comment ^
