Starting a new job at Applied Materials on Monday as a Manufacturing Engineer III. I’ve been out of college for 5 years and all of my work experience till now has been in R&D for start ups and small businesses . So not only is this a new experience for me going into such a large company but also a industry (semiconductors). Does anybody has tips or advices on what I should expect as a new hire and how I can set myself up for success? Thanks!

I stay available, but not super proactive during this time. So many people are already out on vacation anyway and I don't want my correspondence to get lost in the shuffle when they come back because I messaged too early.

That makes sense. I feel the same tension between staying visible and not disappearing completely. I think being lightly present without pushing outcomes feels right right now.
I've been having a few conversations that veer into holiday plans and more or less evade the subject at hand. It's just tough to get anyone to concentrate now. If you want to maintain visibility, check in and talk about their holiday plans, just don't expect to accomplish much.

That is exactly what I am seeing too. Conversations drift and nothing really lands. I like the idea of keeping it human and warm without expecting progress.
