I find myself in the job market after 15 years and have a question: What to do about pre planned and paid for vacation while job hunting? Obviously I will go if I don't yet have a new job, but what if I am hired? How do I handle this?

Take it. The job hunt will most likely last a lot longer than expected and it might not even matter. I wouldn't even mention it until I have a job offer in writing if it were to conflict. At that point they want you and are often accepting of an upcoming trip if it's not something crazy like a month.

like

Only 4 days! And you’re right, the job hunt is taking a lot longer than I expected. I feel like who knows when I’ll be offered a position so might as well live my life as planned.

If you get to the point where they’re offering you the role or asking when you could start, then you could use that as an opening to discuss your travel plans. You can also discuss whether or not you’re willing to cancel them if the job requires.

like

If you do land a job before the vacation, I would tell them you have a prior commitment that you can't change and will need to be gone from (start date to end date), but will be available other than that time and you're excited to start with them. Refuse to give more details (it's none of their business).

You've been on the job for 15 years and job hunting is stressful. You'll be much more refreshed and better able to start your new job if you take that time to reset. Be sure to build in a 2-day cushion to get back, rest, and unpack so you can really start it refreshed.

Hiring processes are long and start dates are generally flexible. Don't miss out on that time with family/friends/self care because it's time you can never get back.

Best wishes on the job search!

How to leverage personal connections for personal gain?

I am a 2nd year and my spouse is a higher up in engineering in big tech. He has some (but not a lot of) sway in outside counsel and could make some intros to in house counsel.

My firm will gladly use my connections for their own gain, so I’m making sure that if/when this situation comes, I take full advantage of it.

Looking for tips on short term and long term strategy.

How many interviews is too many? I’ve done 5 one on ones with different people in the practice group. They want me to talk to a few more, but I’m frustrated. It’s so hard to find time to schedule these things and the associates don’t seem to understand I can’t just take them in the middle of the work day at work. Recruiter thinks it’s a good sign. FWIW they haven’t communicated to me position level they’d expect.

Happy Wednesday everyone. I'm so excited, I have a recruiter call scheduled with @Meta for Administrative Partner position. I've been in my current employer role for 19 years and I'm nervous as heck. I haven't had to do an interview in so long. Can someone please tell me what to expect with the recruiter call? I'm assuming it will be mostly about the role, my skills and background? Do they ask salary expectations? I have no idea what to say for the salary question. Feedback appreciated. Thanks

I’m being promoted from administrative assistant I to II. I currently make $25/hr and they haven’t given me a number yet. Not sure what I should ask for ?

I am in the process of finding administrative assistant interns from our local universities. In an effort to make my job opportunity appealing, I am asking everyone in this bowl about an appropriate job title. Is "Administrative Assistant" outdated or unappealing? I certainly don't want to mislead anyone on the job responsibilities, but I do want to avoid any potential negative stereotypes attached to that job title. Are there alternative titles that you find more appropriate for 2022?
