I wouldn’t send the transcript. Same was happening to me until I started applying and not attaching it…. Basically waited until they interviewed me and asked for it again, made a good impression at the interviews, then they seemed to care less. This got me from insurance defense to big law :)
My first move the app just let me submit without it- I had actually applied to the same firm several times with my transcript attached and never heard back. So I was like well what if I don’t? Immediately got an interview and after is when they asked for the transcript. The next move (to big law) they reached out to me on LinkedIn fist and set up a screening interview, asked for it but offered a second interview so I made sure I did the second interview before sending it. Then was offered the final round interview and got the offer.
I never send my transcript and have had great success lol
Well I don’t apply to any job that requires a transcript and if a recruiter asks for one I’m usually transparent with them that it doesn’t look great and most of the time they don’t care and just drop it. That said, I’m obviously not applying to Biglaw but have had success with midsize and small firms.
It seems like recruiters ghost a lot of people, so it's hard to know how seriously to take it when that happens. I suspect they're playing some kind of numbers game where they contact a large amount of people and then work with a fairly limited number. So it may not be the transcript that's the problem, it's just a quirk of how recruiters operate.
Thanks C1, that’s definitely possible.
Where are you located? I've had fairly good luck with firms that I work with when it comes to this. Just to do I had a firm agree to review my candidate's materials by me simply picking up the phone and calling to explain the issue as opposed to emailing.
NYC!
Maybe you are applying to firms with a grade cutoff. There are plenty of firms that don't care about grades. Still no excuse for a recruiter to ghost
Yeah, I explained to the recruiter who was impressed with my resume that my grades weren’t stellar but, I wanted to try applying anyway. They assured me the firm I was interested in didn’t care about grades too much, and to send the transcript over for the recruiter to have on record. I sent it and it’s been radio silence. I was really excited about this firm. Their website still has the job I’m interested in listed, but their application requires a resume. I’d need a recruiter to have any chance at an interview.
I would have no idea how to find my transcript. I think it’s insane people are asking for it if you’ve already had work experience.
Agreed, I had no one asked it after a few years’ practice
