I don’t know if it is still accurate, but I used to work at Walmart forever ago. I was told that one of the issues with these larger stores is that they employ more food stamp eligible people, who then turn around and use said funds at the store. Interesting concept, anybody else ever hear that or have thoughts?
There have been stories for years about how part of the onboarding at Walmart was showing people how to apply for government assistance. So yeah, it's a predatory company that has long been subsidized by the taxpayers. Instead of paying people a living wage, the government takes up the slack.
I very highly recommend watching this. They tend to *take* jobs out of the local community because of the number of business the big box stores force to close down. They replace them with part-time jobs and no benefits, while also paying less in taxes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7-e_yhEzIw
