I am an m&a junior at a firm that is generally considered a lifestyle firm (pay below market but target hours are lower unless pushing for partner). Over the pandemic period, we have had so many senior associates and paralegals leave that there is no one to ask questions to and I’m doing paralegal work (we are all in survival mode). I’m not convinced the partners in my team (who are aware of the problem but cannot convince management) can recruit people to replace given we pay below market.

I hope to break into banking next summer, and I’m interested in the Natural Resources, Industrials, and Real Estate industry groups. Any advice on what to do? Thanks!

I am working with a post-MBA Associate on a project and this person seems to do extra work beyond what the team is asking the rest of us to do. I think during our conversations with the leadership, there were a couple of points that were brought up by the MD but that was not a concrete directive that we need to do because if it is, I would know about it from the chain email since I am staffed to the project.

Lateraled into banking and I'm getting killed. My aso will mention to do stuff as he's walking out, says do this this and this and by the time I process what he said he's out the door then I miss something he's like I told you to do it. If I ask questions to clarify he gets annoyed, he says read what I wrote again, how is what I said confusing, etc. Dude I just want to be fed info my first few months until I reach a critical mass level of info to run shit on my own to some degree's

How’s associate interview process at EBs these days? Getting a lot of heat right now and thinking of exploring a few opportunities

Currently an analyst-level consultant working with a client that has an investment banking division. Since I have access to internal systems, could I reach out to bankers for networking from within using those systems? Or would that be too aggressive? lol

Senior Analyst in a coverage role- tips to stay engaged during this slump? With deal flow essentially halted, where do you see juniors adding the most value and standing out during all of this?

I'm at a smaller MM bank. My original goal was to start here and hustle through into a BB, but I wasn't expecting to really like the people (my team, my direct seniors). I think the work we do probably wouldn't differ a crazy amount (we close deals, just smaller of course) and I'm wondering if I really have a reason to try to move into a bigger bank.
