Doing your job well is doing your job, and doesn’t necessarily mean you’re ready to take on more scope.
Not everything is trainable or trainable quickly. Maturity, for example. You can be a great individual contributor, but a terrible manager.
I do value recognition, even without a tangible reward. I was recently recognized in a company All-Hands but there was no financial incentive behind it. It’s nice to have your name/face put out there.
Now, if it came to annual review time (where raises are discussed) and I got “meeting expectations” when I’ve exceeded every metric and expectation I’d be pissed.
There’s a time and a place for each type of recognition.
Agree recognition without incentives is nice throughout the year and should be used as talking points during a review when comp should be discussed.

Lots of firms are this way unfortunately. You have to move jobs every 4-5 years to keep up with current market salaries. Your firm will never match it.
I did not get a raise as many others in my company reported on the company fishbowl. My employer had record profits but has a new CEO looking to make a name for herself and gain traction in the industry. She made certain she got an 11 million dollar bonus. My benefits went up but not even a COLA to match so I started looking for employment elsewhere.
I have been in finance for 25 years and I couldnt even get an interview with US Bank
@Sr Financial Analyst 1 - Every job is not trainable for everyone. For the same reason some people fail at math but excel in science.
Too many people think that just because anybody can, that anybody should do whatever they want. Everyone thinks they are leadership material all of a sudden, which is why we have a massive influx of terrible leadership and endless layoffs.
All that aside, did you make your desires known? Sometimes at work people just go through the motions. Often, it’s the ones who ask that receive. Now if you ask and they brush you off, well there’s your answer.
