I got caught in a messy layoff where the company gave conflicting stories about why people were let go. I'm job searching now and worried that employers will think I was terminated for cause. Any advice on reaching out to former colleagues for references when the company fumbled your departure?

Generally company policies around this won’t let them reveal anything other than the dates you work there. Just be honest and you’ll be fine. Downsizing happens to good people all the time. I’ve been there too.

This. They can't tell them if you were fired or why. Only the dates you work. Also, they're not talking to anyone who knows you when they're checking your employment at EY (i.e., not your references).

Just send them a text if you have their number or add them on LinkedIn if you don't. They would probably appreciate a reference in exchange.

If I was close with a colleague enough to refer, I’d know in my head if the termination was for cause or a layoff and base my referral off that. I’d reach out like I would in any other situation

man are these pple that dumb or naive. when companies let you go just go . if you dont sign still go or sign later to get the final check , no one is going to give you the RIGHT answer or truth . they can let u go anything if they fell like it. thats what it means as employers for long long time man.

I would like your opinion: assume someone at its late 30’s that has been doing Trade Finance (structure trade finance and product development) for the past 10 years. Also assume this individual is looking to do something different but still in banking to leverage the experience acquired through the years... now here is the question: what potential career paths do you see for this person?

Company on track for 22 goals. Traditionally included 2% profit sharing at YE, this year however comes with a unique caveat.

The CEO added a qualifier, to be eligible for the payout one must agree to and sign a binding arbitration agreement. In the CEOs email to staff he indicates these agreements are standard in most companies and typically required for new hires.

I’m curious to get insight from others. Is this standard practice and generally required for new hires? Something feels off.
