In the context of the United States and the vast majority of the cars on the road, yes a Stinger is on the lower side, but I don’t think it was the problem here.
Also the people you talked to were victim-blaming and I don’t like that either. Someone drove into your rear quarter panel while you were driving in your lane, they were most likely 100% at fault. If they couldn’t see a full size sedan then you were in their blind spot, and while I think a taller car *could* make a difference in very specific cases, I don’t think your accident was one of them.
The semi was already at your rear quarter panel, it would have been easier for the semi driver to see your vehicle if you were driving something longer (such as a stretched Lincoln, so your hood could be in their field of view) rather than taller. Any vehicle tall enough to be spotted would have been long enough as well, such as an RV, a sprinter van, or a bus.
All that is to say, don’t let the people you spoke with make you think you were to blame. Hope you are otherwise unharmed in the accident, but if you were, physically or mentally, make sure you seek help, and hire a personal injury lawyer. Best of luck!
Thankfully I was 100% fine. It was a low speed accident as we were in a construction zone.
And after the anger of the incident passed, I was able to reflect and acknowledge that: I was in a highway accident with a semi and was not only able to walk away injury free, but drive away and make it home too. And given the context that is a very rare outcome that I should be really happy about. The car can be fixed, and any resale value hit is negligible in the grand scheme of things. Health is a premium and Ive still got that 🙂
This was more me just thinking "A mid-sized sedan isn't that small, isnt? Or am I just that out of touch 😅"
Mainly asking cause I think I drive a very normal car. All the comments of how "low" is it just kinda surprised me.
But maybe im wrong and it actually is...
Stinger is not a low (or small) car.
Whatever you do, don’t sign the first write-off (if car is deemed a total loss) they will offer.
Stinger isn’t that low. Mx-5 or similar would be a concern.
It’s unclear who is at fault based on your description. If you are trying to pass the truck when lanes are merging, or if the truck is moving into a turn lane, I would say you may be at fault. These would be circumstances where drivers may not (although good practice) check blind spots or mirrors before moving over.
It’s a Kia. They would have done that to a bmw or Mercedes
Don’t believe me? Rent an expensive car for the week and watch people yield to you everywhere
