I got laid off again and the market is crap as everyone knows. I know how to do home renovations and floorings. I'm meeting with my lawyer to set up an LLC and acquire all the licenses. Please tell me I made the right move. I already have people in construction ready to refer me.

Well, if you can make money while searching for a role, you might be able to turn this into a side hustle after you land a new job. So it sounds like a good idea. Just make sure you are networking and trying to get interviews as well. That takes up a lot of time. Good luck!

likehelpful

Yea, that’s sound logic. W-2 income is not as secure as it used to be. So building your own thing is absolutely a good use of time and resources.

My buddy did this. He left his management job and started a flooring company. He grosses 20-30k a month, occasionally more. Way more than you’ll ever make I. Corporate America unless you reach the C level.

You did the right thing by taking matters into your own hands. Having a job may be a form of security, but starting your own business is control over your destiny. Make sure the lawyer doesn’t overcharge you and ask for itemized receipts for expenses such as his base fees, each license fee, and corporate filing fees.

I was like some of you, except that I was laid off not once, but twice just after getting married. I can vouch for not trusting my future to another company or person. Self-employment decision came after these two devastating events and now I look back and I CONSIDER BEING LAID OFF AS A BLESSING. I started a Recruiting firm in my garage with two young children and a supporting hard-working wife in 1977,

Next year, the will celebrate its 50th year in business and my marriage with a 60-year anniversary. Since my first placement, now why i had waited so long in THE IMPORTANCE IN CONTROLLING MY DESTINY. The success has provided me with a high-level income, an internationally recognized business recognized by FORBES MAGAZINE 3 years in a row as a TOP EXECUTIVE SEARCH FIRM RANKING in the USA.

Self-employment requires a "total commitment", spouse/family support, Six-to-Twelve-month survival amount, a sound/researched business plan and most of all, highest level of perseverance & determination. I was born in poverty and picking cotton in 100+degree weather was my motivation for "controlling my destiny" for me and my family.

Don’t get scammed. I saw an ad for vending machines that dispense hot coffee, from The Caffeine Dream. Sounds like a cool idea, and they offered placement of the machines for a one time fee. but I asked this “Chris Mateli” where. He was evasive at first and was rude when I had someone with my company call to ask. Eventually he gave me the locations before buying the machines which, of course, I couldn’t verify for placement. They had no idea about these machines because they never ordered them.

Any craft beer brewers here?

In the last two year I’ve gotten more and more into alcohol free beer. The selection in my country (Europe) is still small and mainly driven by the big brands (e.g. Heineken). My idea is to start my own small brewery which only produces alcohol free beer as a bit of a pendant to the booming local craft beer industry. Any thoughts on that idea or someone who has experience in the market?
