Coach
I’ll put it this way, if you’re willing to go in versus keeping the remote job - why would it be too much to ask?
You need to look at how much the commute is going to cost you (even without the shift differential). Make sure you’re not making less than you are now.
But, the beautiful part is you have a job now. So I’d apply, ask for the salary and if they say no - you just keep doing your current job. The benefit you have is not being desperate to find work because bills are piling up, your family needs to eat or your home is at rick.
My advice to everyone is negotiate your offers, always. Go in, do the interview, ask for what you want and if it’s not a fit - that’s okay too. But a new role should be going up in salary - not down or staying the same unless: you love the industry, you love the work and money isn’t a motiving factor.
Make sure it’s the right move for you, negotiate the salary and good luck! You got this 💪
I would definitely ask. Nothing be a failure, but a try.
It sounds like you have a clear understanding of the compensation you would need to receive in order to take that job. I’d be up front with your relative about that, to ensure you’re not wasting anyone’s time.
Just FYI, it’s much more likely that the company would prefer to hire someone more local, who would be willing to work for the offered pay rate and doesn’t have such a long commute. If you have a family connection, though, anything’s possible!
