I had a recruiter reach out to me for a role and then completely disappear after our first conversation. It’s frustrating because they acted extremely interested at first and then stopped responding without any explanation. How long do I follow up for before letting it go?

Welcome to the 2026 job market lol. It’s common, sometimes they just have SO MANY applicants who have more years in your resume, hiring manager just sees something on someone else’s resume that had WOW on it, or the position closes due to budget cuts/fake job posting etc. In my experience, I genuinely yield better results if the recruiter calling me has a non-Indian accent. But it’s been radio silent for the past 3 months vs last year

likefunny

Recruiting is essentially skill shopping. Initially they liked your product but probably found another product they liked better. As others have stated, one follow-up email is appropriate then move on. Badgering them is not going to increase your chances.

Always feels like recruiters are just collecting resumes for their own numbers sometimes, especially when the market's rough. I keep mine updated every few weeks just in case something pops up, even though it's tempting to slack off.

Honestly, proving your skills isn’t the hardest part - getting your resume noticed is where I've been stuck. There's too many applicants who look just like you on paper. What helped me lately is making sure my resume actually fits the job description, the keywords and all that stuff. I started scanning mine with ResumeJudge after a friend suggested it (also tried Resume Worded and Jobscan) and for real, it pointed out this random skill the recruiters wanted that I never would've guessed was missing. Feels like some jobs want super-specific stuff just to filter you out at the start.

Have you gotten interviews where they actually tested your skills, or is it just non-stop resume filtering? Weird how the whole process changes depending on what you’re applying for.

If you ever want to swap tips for tailoring resumes, let me know what industry you're in. Some skills are way easier to prove than others, but it's always the resume part that trips people up.

May be you just started your job search, but basically lower your expectation inspite of a great recruiter call, In this market, that is the easiest of hurdle.
In-fact in behavioral and technical rounds, inspite of you doing really good, if someone else clicked in just 1 area (well, almost) better than you, they would go with other candidate. It is brutal job market. Supply-Demand imbalance.

Once, sometimes roles go on hold. Or job req isn’t fully approved. They’re collecting resumes. First step.

This is better then getting them offer and getting rescinded. Dont get over excited with calls with recruiters.

It's happened to me a few times now.

End of the day I just square it with this being their job and the nature of the business. They likely have a stable of candidates they're dealing with and present nice and chummy with all of them.

I agree probably doesn't take them much to be more human in their approach but they likely aren't being mean purposefully. Just spending energy where it'll get em their commission.

Once. It happens on a regular basis with several recruiters. They just want updated resumes to look like they are doing something. The market sucks. Keep your resume updated as well as your skills. And be able to prove those skills if you land and interview. Remember, there are 500 others with the same skills and experience. What separates you from them?

Career advice?

I'm a relatively junior data engineer (2yoe), the only other engineer (senior) that trained me left about a 6 months ago and I negotiated a nice raise for the extra responsibilities.

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

Any opinions/tips?

Got a job offer for Google $62,000 / year as a Data Center Technician. Thoughts?

Considering a Product Owner role. Any best practices of what questions to ask during an interview? First phase deals with a virtual Teams interview with the recruiter and her manager on Tuesday. However, I am worried if I accept the tech role and I do not become permanent I will be looking again for a job in 12-24 months and my CV won't be showing a managerial position. Won't be showing any progress.
